FREE Job Fair on April 19 at the Oregon Convention Center
Do you know a young person searching for a job or career? On Friday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Oregon Convention Center, Gateway to College – in partnership with Worksystems, Prosper Portland, and a number of community organizations – is hosting the 2019 Opportunity Youth Job Fair. The Fair is free, and it will offer full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs, as well as apprenticeships and internships, with a focus on jobs for young people between the ages of 16 and 24, including those who are out of school and out of work. More than 50 Portland-area employers will be on hand at the Fair, and many of these employers will be interviewing for and offering jobs on site.
Many young people in our communities face significant barriers to employment. Along with jobs, the fair will feature a number of resources and information to help overcome barriers to finding a job and in staying employed. Some of the resources include:
– Free on-site childcare for job seekers with children
– Deeply discounted TriMet passes
– Record expungement
– Housing assistance
– Employment services for job seekers with disabilities
– Free food handlers cards from ORLA, for those seeking employment in food service
– Information on high school completion and college programs
